Our SMSF Services
Specialist accounting, financial planning, and legal services for self-managed super fund trustees. Everything your fund needs, under one roof, fully connected.
Integrated SMSF Advice Across Accounting, Financial Planning and Law
Most SMSF trustees work with an accountant, a financial planner, and a lawyer who have never spoken to each other. The gaps between them are where opportunities get missed and mistakes get made.
At New Wave SMSF, all three services sit within the same firm. Your accountant, financial planner, and legal adviser work together on your fund as part of a single, coordinated team. That means your tax strategy is connected to your investment plan, your estate planning is aligned with your trust deed, and your SMSF is always working as hard as it should be.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an SMSF and how does it differ from a regular super fund?
A self-managed super fund is a private superannuation fund that you manage yourself as a trustee. Unlike a retail or industry super fund where a large fund manager makes decisions on your behalf, an SMSF gives you direct control over how your retirement savings are invested. With that control comes personal responsibility for compliance with Australian superannuation law, which is why specialist accounting, financial planning, and legal support is important.
Is an SMSF right for me?
An SMSF is not the right structure for everyone. It tends to suit people with a higher super balance, typically above $200,000, who want greater control over their investments, are willing to take on trustee responsibilities, or have specific investment goals such as holding property or business real property through their fund. Our team can help you assess whether an SMSF is appropriate for your circumstances.
How much super do I need to make an SMSF worthwhile?
There is no legal minimum balance required to set up an SMSF, but most financial advisers suggest a balance of at least $200,000 to make the costs of running the fund worthwhile relative to the benefits. For business owners who plan to use their SMSF strategically, the threshold can be lower depending on their specific circumstances. Speak with our team to get a clear picture for your situation.
What does it cost to have an SMSF managed by New Wave SMSF?
The cost of managing an SMSF depends on the complexity of your fund, the assets it holds, and the level of advice and support you require. We provide transparent, tailored pricing based on your specific situation. Contact our team for a quote.
What is the difference between SMSF administration and SMSF advice?
SMSF administration covers the ongoing management of your fund including annual financial statements, tax returns, and ATO reporting. SMSF advice covers the strategic side, including investment strategy, contribution planning, retirement planning, and estate planning within super. At New Wave SMSF, we provide both, fully integrated, so your fund is always managed with your broader goals in mind.
Can I use my SMSF to buy property?
Yes, an SMSF can purchase residential or commercial property. However, any borrowing used to fund that purchase must be structured as a Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangement (LRBA), which is the only type of borrowing permitted inside superannuation. Under an LRBA, your fund can only acquire a single asset per arrangement. There are also strict rules around how the property is held, who can use it, and how related party transactions are managed. Our accounting, financial planning, and legal teams work together to ensure any property acquisition through your fund is structured correctly and fully compliant with ATO requirements.
Do you work with clients outside the Gold Coast?
Yes. While we are headquartered on the Gold Coast, we work with SMSF trustees across Queensland and Australia. Most of our client work can be handled remotely, and we are set up to serve clients wherever they are located.
How do I get started?
The best place to start is a free SMSF strategy call with one of our specialists. We will take the time to understand your situation, explain how we work, and give you a clear picture of what is possible for your fund. There is no obligation and no cost for the initial conversation.
